I have been in sales
over 20 years in a highly competitive, male dominated field. I
love sales, the psychology and the process of it,
understanding why people buy, why salespeople sell - or don't
sell. I happened into training and mentoring because I was
asked to by business owners who knew of my record of "making
it happen" month after month-- consistently winning awards for
achievement-- setting records and breaking my own
records.
Schools teach us about
business, they don't train us how to get that business. Our
CEO's are taught finance, science, marketing, law, and
manufacturing but NOT SALES. We don't learn the basic
techniques that maximize opportunities and daily activities
that simply, get it done.
"Public Personnel
Management, Winter 97, Vol.26 Issue 4, P 461 that compared
training alone to coaching and training and found that
training alone increased productivity by 22.4% and training
plus coaching increased productivity by 88%."
Sales Training alone
has a shelf life of 51 weeks-- most (44%) report less than one
month!
Mentoring is more
effective when someone knows what they need to get done, but
isn't sure how to get there. It used to be seen as a tool to
correct underperformance. But it's just as useful to support
top performers, and managers who need help to build a plan
that produces measurable and permanent sales
improvement.
